RENT!!!!!

Last night I had a dream...*laughs* I mean I saw Rent! (at the Regal theatre in Subiaco (Perth, West Aus. for people not from around here:)))

November 24th (technically 25th) 12:15 am.

I've been home from RENT for about 20 minutes and I just had to write about it tonight even though I won't be posting this until tomorrow.

It was just amazing, the first time I’ve seen a live stage show and wow!

The beginning felt just a tiny bit strange because the cast (all Australian as far as I know, and mostly local I think) put on American accents, which I wasn't expecting but it wasn't horrible like when Americans do the fake Aussie accent so that was fine :)

Anthony Callea (Australian idol runner up a couple years back) played Mark and I really wasn't sure about that casting decision until I saw him. He was just brilliant (but so short!)

The entire ensemble, and all the different parts they played (parents, homeless people etc) did a wonderful job.

Tim Campbell as Roger was very good at displaying the emotions but tending to start shouting rather than singing in places. Still I had to say, what was someone with that voice doing on Home & Away (an Australian soap opera for those who don’t know)

Mimi had a beautiful voice, she was absolutely fantastic to listen to but her acting (and dancing in Out Tonight) seemed to lack something, particularly in the finale when she has her near death experience.

Joanne (isn't it wonderful how I only remember the names of 3 cast members?) had an amazing voice and her acting was great but she and the actress playing Maureen seemed miscast as a couple mainly because Nikki Webster (Maureen) is in her early (I think) 20s and looks about 16 and that made Joanne look much older than her .

Nikki was someone I really wasn't sure about, especially since I’ve seen the incomparable Idina Menzel in the movie (and heard her on the original cast recording), like Mimi she has a great voice but her acting was less than it could have been.

There are no (polite! lol) words for how amazing Angel and Collins were, their singing acting and chemistry were truly memorable and Angel was just fantastic. Particularly in the New Years Eve break in when he appeared in a silver glitter covered body suit and a similar silver wig that must have been a foot tall by itself!

Shai (Collins, just remember the actor's name :)) really shone in the funeral scene, you could tell he was just singing his heart out.

That, other than “oh my ****ing goodness I loved the whole thing”, is about all that comes to mind now. I may have more to say before I post this tomorrow :)

Tomorrow (today? lol): after I wrote last night I remembered there was a funny little part at the end of Light My Candle – Mimi couldn’t quite get her stash back in time so they finished with her kind of hugging Roger with the little bag in her hand.

That's about all I can think of, ask me questions if you want more details :)

Live Journal is telling me every time I log in that I haven't posted yet, so here I am posting ^^ Pretty much joined because a friend told me there was Wicked fanfic here I hadn't read.
